Every loan, credit card or onboarding decision rests on two things: what your credit history says about you, and whether the documents behind your application are genuine. Checking your score across bureaus and verifying identity documents before you apply catches mismatches early, strengthens your case with lenders, and prevents rejections that leave a hard-enquiry mark for no reason.

What You'll Need

Requirements differ slightly between a bureau score pull and a document verification check, but most requests move instantly once these are ready.

Identity Proof for Score Check

  • PAN card (mandatory for every bureau)
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  • Full name exactly as per bureau records
  • Date of birth for identity match

Document Numbers for Verification

  • PAN, DL, Voter ID or passport number
  • Vehicle RC number & chassis number
  • Bank account number & IFSC code
  • Exact name as printed on the document

Consent & Authorization

  • Written or digital consent for the bureau pull
  • Authorization to query the official data source
  • Purpose declaration (loan, KYC or onboarding)
  • Acceptance of data-sharing terms

Understanding Your Credit Score

Bureaus score on roughly the same 300โ€“900 scale, but the band your number falls into is what lenders actually read first. Here's how the bands generally break down.

Below 650

Poor

Usually reflects missed payments, high outstanding balances or a very limited credit history. Lenders tend to scrutinise applications more closely at this band.

650 โ€“ 699

Fair

Shows a working but inconsistent repayment record. Some lenders will approve at this band, often with tighter terms than the bands above it.

700 โ€“ 749

Good

Indicates a mostly on-time repayment history with reasonable credit utilisation. This is the band most standard bank products are underwritten around.

750 & Above

Excellent

Reflects a long, consistent history of on-time payments and low utilisation across accounts. Typically the band lenders reference for their best available terms.

Common Questions About Score & Verification Checks

Answers to what applicants and businesses usually ask before running a check.

What's the difference between Equifax, Experian, CRIF and TransUnion (CIBIL) scores?
All four are RBI-licensed credit bureaus that calculate your score from broadly the same lender-reported data, but each uses its own scoring model and update cycle, so scores can differ by a few points. CIBIL (TransUnion) is checked most often by banks, while CRIF High Mark is common with regional and cooperative lenders โ€” checking more than one gives a fuller picture.
How often should I check my credit score?
Checking once every few months, and always before a major application like a home or business loan, is enough to catch errors or fraud early without over-monitoring. A self-check has no bearing on your score no matter how often you run it.
Does checking my score hurt it?
No. A self-initiated score check is a soft enquiry and is never visible to lenders or counted against your score. Only a hard enquiry, triggered when a lender pulls your report for a formal loan or card application, can have a small, temporary impact.
How long do verification results take to come back?
Most checks โ€” PAN, bank account, driving licence, voter ID, passport and RC verification โ€” return a result within seconds to a couple of minutes, since they query the official database directly rather than a manual process.
Is my verification data handled securely?
Every check runs only with your explicit consent, queries the relevant official source directly, and results are shared solely with the party you authorised. Data is retained only as long as needed for that specific application and is not used for any unrelated purpose.
